2023 HYGGE HIKE
HYGGE HIKE AT NIGHT - COMMUNITY CANDLELIGHT SNOWSHOE HIKE
FEBRUARY 25, 2023
The 5th annual Hygge Hike will be taking place on Saturday, February 25, from 6:00 - 8:00 pm at the Historic Montreal Ski Trails. This event is being planned in partnership between NICER and the Penokee Rangers Trail Corps,
Participants will arrive to find a variety of luminaries lining the 1.5 mile route along a portion of the Historic Montreal Ski Trails, with multiple bonfires, Swedish torches, hot chocolate, and a few other surprises along the way. Participants are also encouraged to wear anything that GLOWS to help light up the night (glow sticks, LED light vests, reflective clothing...get creative)!
Don't have snowshoes? We have you covered! The Extension Iron County office will have their community snowshoes available to use for FREE, with kids and adult sizes to choose from.
A $10 suggested donation per family will be collected at the trailhead, with proceeds to benefit NICER and the Penokee Rangers (who maintain the Historic Montreal Ski Trails on a volunteer basis). Parking will be limited. Please see our parking details in the section below.
Even though this is a dog friendly trail system, we ask that you leave your dogs at home during this event.
If you would like to volunteer at this year's Hygge Hike at Night, we would love the extra help! We invite anyone interested in volunteering to arrive at the Rose Wreath Trailhead at 10:30 am the day of the event to assist with luminary set up. Volunteers will also be needed to light the luminaries starting at 4:30 pm. If you have any questions, please reach out to NICER at email@example.com.
Be sure to dress in anything that GLOWS to help light up the night!
HYGGE HIKE PARKING DETAILS
Parking is typically a challenge for this event, but we do have two local businesses who are allowing us to use their parking lots this year!
SOUTH SHORE OIL PARKING LOT:
New this year, we will have parking available in the South Shore Oil lot. The Penokee Rangers made a connector trail through the wooded area for anyone parking here, to avoid walking on Hwy 77. Our parking attendants will assist you and let you know where to go.
ROSE WREATH PARKING LOT:
Please use the entrance to Number 4 Road when parking in the Rose Wreath lot. Do not enter on the south side of Montreal Street, as we are using it as an exit only for the Rose Wreath parking area. Participants using the South Shore Oil parking lot will also be crossing over on Montreal Street, so please use caution when exiting.
Our parking attendants will be directing traffic to each parking lot, with overflow parking directed to Number 4 Road (right side only), or across Hwy 77 on the north side of Montreal Street . PLEASE USE CAUTION AND WATCH FOR PARTICIPANTS AND VOLUNTEERS.
