ABOUT US

Our mission as a group is to work to enhance our communities through events and community initiatives that create a sense of belonging and develop a healthy, vibrant, and welcoming community for all residents.

Northern Iron County includes: Hurley, Montreal, Upson, Gile, Pence, Oma, Kimball, Iron Belt, Carey, Saxon, Gurney.

NICER started in 2018 as a group of us northern Iron County residents were talking about collaborative ways to make great things happen in our community.  These initial conversations were loosely based around an economic development initiative called Cable Tomorrow: Remembering our past, claiming our future (townofcable.com/about-cable-tomorrow/).

By 2019 we identified goals and strategies, and rolled up our sleeves!  Our overall goal is to pursue activities that incorporate youth, arts and the community at large to enhance area events, highlight local history and encourage tourism.   NICER aims to support this goal by organizing regular meetings and project committees.

To date, we have organized a snowshoe hike, a scavenger hunt, and a spooky Halloween trail walk, created a community garden space, and more - all of which you can learn more about in our menu.  We've also surveyed our neighbors to identify the hopes and dreams of our community and prioritize future projects (see the Northern Iron County Community Placemaking Workshop in the Past Events tab).

This is just the beginning!  Be sure to follow us on Facebook or join our email list.
