BOARD OF DIRECTORS

Meet our Board of Directors!

Neil Klemme

President

Hello, My name is Neil Klemme. I moved to this community when the 4-H Youth Development Educator position opened and I love the region for the many outdoor activities that it offers. I grew up in Plymouth and moved to the Green Bay area to attend college at the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay. I have been married for 17 years and have two children in the Hurley School District. I enjoy hiking, landscaping, and hunting. I became involved with NICER because I really enjoyed being around other members of the community that were interested in working towards improving where we live. Our region has so much to offer and I enjoy working with this crew to create a community that is one that we can all be proud of. This is something that takes work and NICER has shown me that they are willing to do that work.

Ken Saari

Vice President

My family and I were born and raised in the Hurley area. After spending some time in the Twin Cities, Amy and I moved back home after Connor joined our family. We wanted him to enjoy the same childhood memories we were fortunate to have, surrounded by lakes, woods, and nature in general.  I chose to get involved in NICER because I believe the area has so much potential. As the stress of life gets more intense, more folks are looking for ways to unplug and unwind; I believe our area is a perfect location for reconnecting with family, friends, and nature. I am hoping to enhance the experience while still preserving the heritage many hold dear to their hearts and minds.

Kari Klemme

Secretary

My family and I moved north from the Green Bay area eight years ago and haven’t looked back.  I chose to get involved in NICER because I love where I live and believe the unique beauty we are surrounded by has unlimited potential to be showcased.  My background and experience allow me to offer a creative perspective to events and projects and putting new ideas into action is where I thrive.

Rebecca Holm

Treasurer

I have lived in the Hurley area my entire life. Why you ask? Well, the fact that we are fortunate enough to enjoy all 4 seasons each year is what keeps me here. We live in such a beautiful area. In my spare time, I enjoy visiting Lake Superior, camping, xc-skiing, fishing, listening to music, creating art, and spending time with my family and pets. I also  I am the office manager at the University of Wisconsin Division of Extension Iron County. I am also passionate about volunteering and making a difference in our community, so joining NICER was a perfect fit!

Maleah Cummings

Board Member

I am a home grown local and one of the founding members of NICER.  My mantra is “Be the change” taken from the famous quote by Gandhi, “Be the change you wish to be in the world.” By day, I am a clinical psychologist working to help people be the best versions of themselves.  By night, I am a proud mama, activist, and lifelong learner.  I am proud to call Iron County my home, and I am invested in helping our community thrive and creating a brighter future for our children.

Ciara Relyea

Board Member

Hello, my name is Ciara Relyea. I grew up in a small town in southeastern NY, Wappingers Falls. I earned my BA in Psychology and Women’s Studies from University of Rochester in upstate NY, and my MS in Social Work from Columbia University in NYC. I have always loved exploring the outdoors, especially the forest. When I first visited the Northwoods in 2016, I could see myself moving here, amid its vast natural beauty and endless places to explore by foot, paddle, snowshoe, and pretty much any other means you can imagine. I moved here in 2017, and have been part of NICER since 2019. I am grateful to have the opportunity to work with the fun, passionate, and creative members of NICER to make our community ever better, and look forward to all the exciting projects to come!

I was born and raised in the Hurley area surrounded by generations of my family members within an eye sight. I have a bachelor's degree in Organizational Administration and have been a professional bookkeeper for over 12 years at my father's local accounting office. I’ve always enjoyed working with community organizations and NICER is a perfect fit for bettering the area where we live and building a deeper appreciation for the beauty that surrounds us. I look forward to the many things we can accomplish with this motivated group.

Steve Fiene

Board Member

I've been a resident of Montreal for 5 1/2 years and have been a regular visitor to Iron County since 1990, when my wife Kay and I purchased some property in the Town of Anderson. I attended Madison Area Technical College, Gogebic Community College and am a veteran with 30+ years of military experience. When Kay and I retired in 2016, we could have stayed in Madison, but decided to move to northern WI. We chose Montreal because of its natural beauty and historical significance. In addition to NICER, I also do volunteer work for Hope Animal Shelter and also serve on the Montreal City Council. With my background and experience, I look forward to working with the NICER board and volunteers in their future endeavors!
