NICER EARTH WEEK COMMUNITY CLEAN UP

NICER Celebrates the 50th Anniversary of Earth Day by Encouraging a Week Long Community Clean Up Event

APRIL 20 - 26, 2020

In celebration of the 50th anniversary of Earth Day, NICER, Extension Iron County and the Hurley Chamber of Commerce are planning an Earth Week Community Cleanup!

We are encouraging families who take part in this cleanup to take photos and share them on the NICER Facebook page, using the hashtag #NICEREARTHWEEK. If you have any questions, feel free to email be.nicer.715@gmail.com.

Take pride in your community and help clean up litter on streets and sidewalks near your homes and businesses. Don't worry if you're not able to fill a whole bag of trash, any little bit makes a difference. Small acts, when multiplied by millions of people, can transform the world!

While adhering to the current social distancing guidelines, families will be responsible to use their own supplies (garbage bags, gloves) and will need to dispose of the litter they collect.

Here are a few tips:

-Dress appropriately (wear bright clothing, closed toed shoes, and gloves).

-Pick up litter walking against traffic to ensure you are facing oncoming traffic and aware of any dangers.

-Handle dangerous refuse carefully. Be on the look out for broken glass, sharp items or other safety hazards. If you find anything suspicious, contact the Police Department.

-Supervise minors. Please talk with them about safety (staying off roadways, watch for suspicious litter).

-Please follow the current social distancing guidelines.
